Summary: One of Scully's friends from the FBI academy, now working in the Violent Crimes Unit asks her to assist him on a homicide investigation involving no clear MO or point of entry, with the hope that it will save her career and Scully accepts, while finally realising what a joke she and Mulder are considered to be.
Mulder reviews the case and he notices that similar homicides occurred in 1903, 1933 and 1963. When he helps capture Eugene Tooms, Mulder mentions the other murders and his credibility is weakened. Mulder and Scully follow the paranormal angle of the case and discover the Tooms is a genetic mutant who can fit his body through the smallest of spaces and needs to consume 5 human livers to sustain himself for thirty years of hibernation.

Summary: Mulder puts the future of the X-Files in jeopardy when he heads to a UFO crash site being rapidly covered up by the military. He is arrested and while in jail he meets Max Fenig, a UFO nut whose NICAP group has followed Mulder's work on the X-Files.
When Mulder is released, Scully urges him to return to Washington to face his superiors and try and save his job but Mulder finds out that Max is more than meets the eye and ignores Scully to try and save him instead.

Summary: Following a vague tip from Deep Throat, Mulder uncovers secret testing of alien DNA on humans by the government but is captured and infected with an alien retrovirus. Against his own concerns, Deep Throat tries to do too much for the agents and is discovered as Mulder's source and is executed.
At the very end, Mulder informs Scully that word has come from the top of the executive branch to close The X-Files.
